Twenty years of music, friendship, touring and passion. A road movie through the world of punk rock.

DIESEL is a feature-length music documentary directed by David Basso, built from nearly two decades of filming, interviews and personal archives. It takes you behind the scenes of independent music, following the people and bands who keep the punk rock scene alive.

At the heart of DIESEL is the story of Uncommonmenfrommars, a French punk rock band whose journey reflects the energy and evolution of the independent music scene.

From live shows and recording sessions to life on tour, backstage moments and encounters with other musicians, the film captures the reality of a scene built on friendship, determination and a shared love of music.

But DIESEL is more than the story of a band. It is also about the people around them: friends, families, musicians, promoters, independent labels and the many people working behind the scenes.

How do independent bands survive? Can you make a living from music? What role do record labels, touring and underground networks play in keeping a music scene alive?

Through interviews with musicians and music industry professionals, DIESEL explores the realities of the record industry and the meaning of DIY — Do It Yourself.

It is a look at a world where people create their own opportunities, build communities and keep playing because music is more than a job. It is a way of life.

The documentary brings together voices from French and American punk rock, including:

And many more musicians and people who have helped shape the independent punk rock scene.

Whether you’re into American punk rock, skate punk, underground music, independent record labels or music documentaries, DIESEL offers an honest look behind the scenes.

This is a film about bands and music, but also about friendship, growing older, the memories made on the road and the passion that stays with us long after the show is over.

Filmed over many years, DIESEL is a personal account of an independent music scene, told from the inside rather than through the usual music industry narratives.

Discover DIESEL from wherever you are.
